Individual Therapy
Individual therapy offers a dedicated space to heal, grow, and better understand yourself. At Inspire Mind & Body in Sugar Land, TX, Nina Ali, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, provides one-on-one therapy tailored to your unique history, goals, and challenges — backed by the clinical depth of a dual-certified psychiatric and family nurse practitioner who can both provide therapy and manage medications in one place.
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, major life changes, or simply feeling stuck, individual therapy gives you a consistent, private relationship with a skilled clinician who genuinely knows you. Sessions are available in person in Sugar Land and via telehealth throughout Texas.
Nina’s Approach to Individual Therapy
Comprehensive Initial Assessment
Nina begins with a thorough psychiatric and medical evaluation. Her dual PMHNP and Family Nurse Practitioner training means she assesses both your mental and physical health — identifying root causes that purely psychiatric providers may miss. This first session sets the foundation for a personalized care plan.
Personalized Therapy Plan
Together, you and Nina develop a treatment plan built around your specific goals, history, and preferences. She draws from CBT, MBSR, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and trauma-informed approaches — selecting and combining modalities that fit your situation rather than applying a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Ongoing Sessions & Adjustments
Sessions typically run 45–60 minutes and may be weekly or biweekly depending on your needs and goals. Nina regularly reviews progress with you, adjusting the approach as you grow. If medication may help, she can prescribe and manage it — no separate referral needed.
Building Long-Term Tools
The goal of therapy is not lifelong dependency — it’s equipping you with insights, coping strategies, and self-awareness that stay with you long after sessions end. Nina works toward your independence and resilience, not just symptom management.

Therapy Approaches Nina Uses
Nina draws from multiple evidence-based modalities and integrates them based on what your situation calls for. No single approach works for everyone — Nina assesses what’s most likely to help you specifically and adapts as you progress.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
The gold standard for anxiety, depression, OCD, and many other conditions. CBT helps you identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns and develop practical behavioral strategies for change. Sessions are structured and goal-directed, with tools you can use between appointments.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
MBSR teaches you to observe your thoughts and feelings without being controlled by them. Particularly effective for anxiety, chronic stress, trauma, and pain, it builds the capacity to respond rather than react — a skill that transforms daily life.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative therapy helps you examine and rewrite the stories you carry about yourself — including those shaped by culture, family, or trauma. By separating who you are from the problems you face, you reclaim authorship of your own life. Especially meaningful for clients navigating identity, cultural transitions, or internalized shame.
Solution-Focused Therapy
Rather than dwelling on what’s wrong, solution-focused therapy centers on your strengths, past successes, and the future you want to build. It’s particularly effective for life transitions, relationship challenges, and clients who want practical, forward-looking conversations.
Trauma-Informed Care
Every session Nina conducts is grounded in trauma-informed principles: safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. For clients with trauma histories, this isn’t just a framework — it determines how sessions are structured, how Nina asks questions, and how the therapeutic relationship itself is built.
Play Therapy (Children)
For younger children who cannot yet process experiences through conversation, play therapy uses art, games, and imaginative play as the language of healing. Nina adapts play therapy techniques for children experiencing anxiety, trauma, behavioral challenges, or adjustment difficulties.
Who Is Individual Therapy For?
Individual therapy is appropriate for people at almost every stage of life. At Inspire Mind & Body, Nina works with children, adolescents, and adults — in person at our Sugar Land office or via telehealth across Texas.
Children & Adolescents
Young people face unique pressures — academic stress, social dynamics, family changes, identity questions, and the normal (but difficult) work of growing up. Therapy gives children and teens a private, judgment-free space to process experiences and develop emotional skills. Nina’s training includes play therapy for younger children and adolescent-focused approaches for teens, with parent collaboration built in.
Adults
Adults come to therapy for an enormous range of reasons: managing a mental health condition, processing a difficult period, improving relationships, understanding recurring patterns, preparing for major life decisions, or simply wanting to grow. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many of Nina’s adult clients find therapy most valuable as a proactive investment in their long-term wellbeing.
Identity-Affirming Care
Nina provides culturally affirming therapy for clients from Asian, Muslim, and South Asian communities, as well as affirming, non-judgmental care for LGBTQ+ individuals. This means understanding the specific stressors these communities face — family expectations, faith and identity, immigration and acculturation, discrimination — and integrating that understanding into every session, not as a footnote, but as central to your care.

Her practice was built for this community — not adapted for it.

What to Expect in Individual Therapy Sessions
Many people have never been to therapy before — or haven’t found an approach that worked. Here’s what working with Nina actually looks like:
The First Session
Your first session is a thorough intake appointment (60–75 minutes). Nina will ask about your history, current challenges, goals, and what you’ve tried before. She’ll share her initial impressions and a proposed approach. There’s no pressure to commit to anything before you’re ready. The goal of the first session is mutual — both of you deciding if working together makes sense.
Ongoing Sessions
Regular individual therapy sessions run 45–50 minutes. Sessions are typically weekly at the start of treatment, then may shift to biweekly as you stabilize. Nina takes brief notes but remains fully present in the conversation — you’re not watching someone type into a computer while you talk.
Between Sessions
Therapy doesn’t happen only in the room. Nina may suggest reflection exercises, readings, or small behavioral experiments to try between appointments. These aren’t homework in the punitive sense — they’re opportunities to practice what you’re learning in real life.
When Medication May Help
If medication could be beneficial, Nina can evaluate, prescribe, and manage it directly — without sending you to a separate provider. This integrated model means your therapy and your medication are being coordinated by someone who knows your full picture.
